When to take Maternity Pictures?

Maternity pictures are such a special session celebrating motherhood and the life within you. I absolutely cherish that time with a soon-to-be mom and love capturing the incredible thing her body is doing. A lot of women are apprehensive about taking maternity pictures because their body has changed so much during their pregnancy, but I always always always recommend doing them. No matter how much you feel like you have changed I promise after your sweet baby is born you are going to miss your tiny bump and wish you had taken them.

I’m obsessed with this beautiful maternity session with Haley. The light, the wind, and the golden grass are absolutely stunning and so perfect. Not pictured, the FREEZING temperature and 3 crying little kids. But even so, this session is absolutely magic.

When is the best time to take maternity pictures?

You should schedule your maternity pictures between 28-35 weeks (or about 7-8 months). This is the best time to take your maternity pictures because you will be pregnant enough to have a cute bump, but not uncomfortable or in pain.

I would schedule your maternity session about 2-3 months in advance of that time frame.

What should I wear for Maternity pictures?

The most flattering outfit for maternity pictures (by FAR) is a flowy floor length dress. The flowyness is both flattering and creates beautiful movement in the images. DO NOT wear jeans or pants. Trust me.
