Extended Family Pictures at the Bonneville Salt Flats

The Bonneville Salt Flats are an incredible location for your extended family pictures. The Salt Flats are remnants of ancient Lake Bonneville, and they are literally made of packed salt. How cool is that? This salty surface creates an impeccably flat and radiant backdrop that will compliment your family perfectly.

The Salt Flats are two hours west of downtown Salt Lake City, near Wendover, NV. Because of the distance, we do charge a $100 travel fee in addition to the $500 fee for an extended family photo shoot. As you drive west along I-80 you’ll pull over at the Salt Flats rest area — it’s about ten miles outside of Wendover. This location is ideal because it’s easy to find and there is plenty of parking. The Bonneville Salt Flats are free to visit, so you won’t need to pay any additional entrance or parking fees.

When to Schedule Your Shoot

The salt flats are flooded with snow melt during the first half of the year, so if you schedule your shoot in the winter or spring, you’ll have a beautiful pool of water as your backdrop. If you prefer a dryer look, be sure to schedule your shoot in the late summer or fall. Whatever the time of year, make sure you schedule your shoot either at sunrise or about an hour before sunset to capture the most striking light.
