Why families choose Truly for maternity

We’re a lifestyle studio—not a stiff couture setup. You’ll get gentle direction, flattering light, and a gallery that feels warm and timeless rather than overly posed or product-heavy.

  • Bright, flattering light for beautiful skin tones and bump detail you’ll love for years
  • Husband and kids included — this chapter belongs to the whole family
  • Studio or outdoor — weather-proof natural light indoors, or Wasatch locations when the season cooperates
  • Weekday access — often calmer for you and quieter locations for us
  • Same team you’ll know later — many families continue with us for newborn, Fresh 48, and family sessions

We don’t have a gown closet—bring outfits you love (we’ll send simple style tips after you inquire), or ask us for wardrobe ideas that photograph beautifully in natural light. Happy to send hair and makeup artist recommendations if you’d like to feel extra polished; we don’t offer on-site HMU.

Our goal is simple: images that feel like this exact season of your family—bright, warm, and easy to love on the wall—without a high-pressure sales experience. You’ll leave with a clear gallery and printing rights, not a product pitch.

When to book your maternity session

Most families feel and look their best somewhere around 28–34 weeks. That’s when the bump reads clearly on camera and you’re still comfortable enough for a relaxed session.

We recommend reaching out earlier in pregnancy so we can hold a weekday date that lands in that window. Exact timing depends on your energy, multiples, and how your pregnancy is going—we’ll help you pick a smart date.

If you’re already past 34 weeks, don’t panic. Many families still create beautiful galleries later in pregnancy when everyone feels up for it. Reach out and we’ll be honest about light, comfort, and what still works.

For a deeper dive on timing, read our guide: When to take maternity pictures. For location inspiration from past sessions, you can also browse supporting stories like Albion Basin maternity and Jordan Pines maternity pictures—then come back here when you’re ready to inquire.

Studio vs outdoor maternity sessions

Truly can do both. Choose what fits your weather, energy, and vibe.

Studio (Sandy or Bluffdale)

Weather-proof and consistent. Soft natural light, cozy backdrops, and an easy drive for Salt Lake and south-valley families. Ideal if you want a calm, controlled session—especially in winter or on hot summer afternoons.

Outdoor Wasatch locations

Foothills, open fields, gardens, and quiet trails when light and season line up. We’ll shortlist spots that flatter your bump and feel accessible. Exact city favorites live on our city photographer pages.

Not sure? Tell us your due date and preferred vibe when you inquire—we’ll recommend studio or outdoor (or a plan B if the weather turns).

Maternity session details

  • Bright lifestyle maternity photography with gentle posing and natural prompts
  • Husband and children welcome—full-family combinations included in the flow
  • Studio (Sandy or Bluffdale) or outdoor location along the Wasatch Front
  • Professionally edited online gallery with printing rights
  • Typical gallery delivery about 3 weeks
  • Weekday preference when calendars allow (often quieter and kinder on energy)
  • Outfit guidance after you inquire—coordinated, not matchy-matchy

You’ll get direction the whole time, so you never have to wonder where to put your hands or how to stand. We move at a pace that respects how you’re feeling that day.

Maternity investment

Maternity sessions are $400 + tax. Photographer availability (Kayla, Val, or Missy), studio vs outdoor, and any travel notes are confirmed when you reach out. We’ll add maternity to our pricing page when this hub goes live.

A booking fee holds your date (same rhythm as our other sessions). Travel may apply outside our usual radius.

Maternity photography FAQ

When should we schedule maternity photos?

Most clients book for 28–34 weeks. Inquire earlier so we can hold a weekday date in that window. More timing tips: when to take maternity pictures.

What should I wear?

Soft textures, fitted or gently draped pieces that show your bump, and colors that feel like you. Neutrals and soft tones photograph beautifully; a flowing dress or a simple fitted top with soft pants both work well. Husband and kids can coordinate without matching. We’ll send simple outfit tips after you inquire. We don’t have a gown closet; we’re happy to send hair and makeup recommendations if you’d like them.

Can my husband and kids join?

Yes—please do. Husband and sibling moments are some of our favorites. Mention ages and headcount when you book so we can pace the session kindly.

Studio or outdoor—which is better?

Studio is weather-proof with consistent natural light. Outdoor is lovely when the season and your energy cooperate. We can help you choose based on due date, weather risk, and the look you want.

How do we book?

Send a note through our contact form with your due date, preferred studio or outdoor vibe, photographer preference if you have one, and any date constraints. We’ll reply with availability and confirm your $400 + tax maternity session, then hold your date once you confirm.

What if the weather turns on our outdoor date?

We’ll watch the forecast with you and pivot to our Sandy or Bluffdale studio, or reschedule within reason when we can. Your comfort comes first.

Kind words from Google

Google reviews shared by clients of Truly Photography.

“Holy Moly. Loved our time with Kayla! In a saturated market it’s really easy to find a photographer, but not one that will not only give you quality, but will give you a great experience too. Do not hesitate to hire her! She is worth every penny and more. I found her from Pinterest and I was so thrilled. We instantly became friends and my husband and baby loved her too! Even though it was just a short session we ended up with so many photos we loved! I felt like I looked great, her poses we natural but I wasn’t awkward and she had awesome direction. We smiled and laughed the whole time. She was easy to communicate with the whole time, got everything to us in a timely matter, and our expectations were set and there were no surprises.”

“Kayla was absolutely a dream to work with! We got our images back and I’ve never been so impressed with a photographer in my life! She is worth the investment and I will treasure these photos for a life time, she made our session so fun and was extremely patient with our 2 little ones! We will definitely be returning clients her level of service is top notch!!!”

“Kayla was wonderful to work with! I can’t say enough good things about her! Not only is she beautifully talents she is also so kind and really cares about her clients. We hired her to take photos of our huge extended family (over 30 people) which is of course a challenge but she handled it so professionally. We had issues with dates and times and she was so flexible and understanding. And we got our photos back within days, which was so great! We loved her so much that my cousin then hired her for her whole wedding! I would recommend Kayla to anyone and everyone!”

Maternity, then newborn (and beyond)

Many families plan the full early chapter with us:

Mention that you’re hoping to continue with newborn or Fresh 48 when you inquire—we’ll help you sequence dates so maternity, hospital-day details, and early-weeks newborn photos don’t collide on the calendar.
