Traveling with an Infant – 3 Tips
Traveling with an Infant – 3 Tips
This past weekend I took a quick trip to Central California for some shoots. Because Lulu is still nursing, she came along. It was her first flight and, although I wasn’t nervous, I was prepared! After taking lots and lots of flights with my first, I feel much more prepared to fly with a baby. Here are 3 tips for traveling with an Infant.
- Wear baby in the airport – you’ll need as many free hands as possible. Wearing your baby in a sling or wrap allows you to have use of your arms to pull your suitcases and fish out passports or anything else you need in the airport.
- Feed baby during take off and landing – I was most worried about kids crying durning the whole flight when I started traveling with Bear. Typically babies cry durning the pressure changes, which happens durning take off and landing. If you feed baby a bottle or snacks during that time, the sucking and chewing motions will help relieve the pressure in baby’s ears.
- Ask for an empty seat – Before you board the plane, go up to the front desk and ask if the flight is full. If it’s not, as if there is any way you can sit next to an empty seat so that you can bring your baby’s carseat on board. Having a place to let baby sleep and stretch out is super helpful, especially on long flights. I always ask for an empty seat and I’d say about 50% of the time we get one! It’s totally worth trying.
Traveling with an Infant can be tricky – but be patient and come prepared and you’ll have a wonderful time with your sweet baby! It’s totally worth it!
