Fresh 48 Photography | Utah Newborn Photographer
I CAN’T believe I’m just now sharing this Fresh 48 Photography session! It’s one of my favorites. Baby F was so sweet and easy to photograph.
We shot this session at the Intermountain Riverton Hospital. The hospital is naturally well lit but it was pouring the day of her session, so the lighting was a little darker than I typically choose, but I loved it!
We’d LOVE to work with your family! Please contact us to book your session! To view more of our work, follow us on Instagram.
What is a Fresh 48 Photography Session?
Although I talk about them a lot, I know that Fresh 48 sessions are still unfamiliar to a lot of people. Essentially it’s a quick photography session shot at the hospital (or in your home) with in 48 hours of baby’s birth. The idea behind it is to capture those little details that are so fleeting and brand new. I love shooting them at the hospital, specifically, because I feel like that hospital stay is such a sacred, bonding time with your new baby. It’s in the hospital where you first feed baby and change their diaper. It’s in the moments when the weight and joy of motherhood consume you and I LOVE being able to capture that for a new mother.
When Should I Book my Fresh 48 Photography Session?
Fresh 48 sessions are a little tricky to schedule (for obvious reasons), so it’s best to contact me 4-5 months prior to your expected due date. At that point, we’ll tentatively plan on shooting around your due date. I’ll schedule my normal weddings and sessions around knowing that you might deliver in that window, so, essentially I’ll be on call for you. To book that on call time all you need to do is sign the contract and pay a portion of the total cost – it’s super simple!
What Should I Prepare for a Fresh 48 Session?
Once you’ve booked the Fresh 48 session I’ll send you a short list of things to know. I only recommend bringing a couple of things to the hospital, but it’s all things you’ll already have brought 😉 I recommend bringing a bow or knit hat and a swaddle from home. See, not much at all! Mostly I love shooting the hospital details because that stay is the only time you’ll use the hospital blanket or onesie. We’ll also work out contacting me so that I make sure to show up to the hospital once baby is born.
I hope this was super helpful in explaining what a fresh 48 session is and why you should book one.

Hi, I'm Kayla!
I’m Kayla, owner and photographer. I started this business as a side hustle to pay for my college tuition and am so grateful for how much it’s grown. It’s such a privilege to be able to shoot with my clients, year after year. I can’t wait to work with your family!
