How to Send a Lightroom Catalog to an Editor

Lightroom is a powerful tool for editing and organizing photos, and it allows users to work on multiple photos at once by using catalogs. Here are the instructions for sending a Lightroom catalog to an editor:

  1. Export the catalog: First, go to the File menu and choose “Export as Catalog”. In the export dialog box, select the location where you want to save the catalog, and give it a name. Make sure to check the option “Export negative files” to export the original photos along with the catalog.
  2. Compress the catalog: Once the catalog is exported, compress it into a .zip file. This will make it easier to send the large file via email or cloud storage.
  3. Share the catalog: Now you can share the compressed catalog file with your editor via email or cloud storage services such as Dropbox or Google Drive. You can also use the Lightroom’s built-in export to share feature.
  4. Provide instructions: It’s important to provide clear instructions to your editor on how to import and use the catalog. This includes information such as which photos need to be edited, specific editing requests, and any other relevant details.
  5. Import the catalog: Your editor will need to import the catalog into their own Lightroom by going to the File menu and choosing “Import from another catalog”. They will then be able to access all the photos and editing information in the catalog and can make the necessary changes.
  6. Return the catalog: Once the editing is complete, your editor should export the catalog, compress it, and return it to you. You can then import it back into your Lightroom to see the final edits.
