The Filas family planned an absolutely gorgeous wedding in Sandy, Utah — despite the limitations of Covid-19 — and we loved being their photographer! If you’re planning a Covid wedding, we’ve got a few tips to keep your special day memorable for all the right reasons while still keeping yourself and your guests healthy.

Tips for a Covid wedding

First things first, visit the CDC Covid website, the website for your local county health department, and your city’s website. If you’re planning a wedding in Sandy, Utah, then this is the website you’ll want to read throughly. Make sure you are well aware of all safety guidelines and protocols required by your county and city, and follow the recommendations made by the CDC.  Don’t forget to keep checking these websites, as information and guidelines can change quickly.

Communication is key

A successful Covid wedding is all about good communication. Be sure to communicate to your wedding party what you expect of them. Should they plan on wearing? Are you having a receiving line, and do you expect that line to maintain good social distancing? These are a few of the questions your bridesmaids and groomsmen should be able to answer. You might also consider asking your wedding party to be extra careful in the weeks leading up to your wedding. You don’t want your maid of honor missing your wedding because she was exposed to Covid at a birthday days before your wedding.

Next, you’ll want to establish good communication with the staff running your wedding venue. Ask about their procedures for deep cleaning. Ask how they plan to help guest maintain adequate social distancing. Will there be signage? Will all tables be set up six feet apart? You might also ask about their mask policy. Will staff will be wearing masks? Are guests expected to wear masks? These are just a few questions to consider.

Have a virtual option

As Covid cases rise, chances are at least one family member or friend will be in quarantine at the time of your wedding. Instead of letting something like this catch you off guard, plan for it! Consider coordinating a way for guests to attend your wedding virtually. This might mean setting up a laptop and a Zoom call so guests can watch your ceremony from home, or designating a bridesmaid to live stream your wedding on Facebook or Instagram TV. Whatever you do will be so appreciated by any friends or family who cannot attend large group gatherings.
