The Front Porch Project | Tips to Shoot Your Own Front Porch Session
Did you see my segment on KSL’s Studio Five? I shared a few tips to shoot your own Front Porch pictures during this quarantine time. The link is in my bio, but here are my tips:
Front Porch Project: Join the photo movement with these 4 pro tips
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1) Shoot when your porch is shaded. My house faces east, so the porch is shaded from the afternoon to the evening. Shooting in shade is not only more pleasant for your family so they won’t have to squint, but all the colors in your image will be consistent.
2) Capture your family doing natural things. My favorite images have been mom + dad snuggling their kids or the kids playing chalk or toys on the porch. Don’t worry about getting a perfect “everyone smiling at the camera” shot. Capture doing what you love during this crazy time.
3) Keep it simple. Don’t get all dressed up or stress about these images. Don’t buy new clothes or coordinate outfits. Honestly, shoot your family as you are, sweats, messy hair, Spiderman jammies – whatever it is, capture it.
4) Use a tripod and wireless remote to capture your whole family. You can get cell phone tripods + remotes on amazon for under $20. Set up the tripod and use the remote to take the images.

Hi, I'm Kayla!
I’m Kayla, owner and photographer. I started this business as a side hustle to pay for my college tuition and am so grateful for how much it’s grown. It’s such a privilege to be able to shoot with my clients, year after year. I can’t wait to work with your family!
