Family of Three Photos in Utah | Golden Fall Aspens in the Canyon

Mom, dad and their young son standing together on a canyon trail with golden aspens and evergreens behind during family of three photos in Utah

There is something so special about a family of three. All the love and attention in one little circle, and this fall canyon session was full of it. Mom, Dad, and their sweet boy met me in a Utah canyon right at peak color, with bright golden aspens, deep green evergreens, and a rocky ridge glowing behind them. If you’ve been dreaming of family of three photos in Utah this fall, this session is pure inspiration.

Family of Three Photos: Close, Cozy, and Connected

With one child, every photo can be all about connection. Instead of wrangling a big group, we get to slow down and snuggle in. I started with a few classic family photos while everyone was fresh, then pulled them in closer and closer with hugs, squeezes, and a few silly whispers that got real giggles out of their son.

His Own Little Moment

I always give kids a few minutes in the spotlight. This little guy was such a natural, hands in his pockets, grinning like he owned the whole canyon. His dusty rose pullover against those golden aspens? I’m obsessed. These solo portraits are the ones parents tell me they treasure most, because they capture exactly who their child is right now.

Don’t Forget Mom and Dad

One of the best parts of a family of three session is that there’s time for the two of you. You started this family together, and you deserve photos of just you and your husband, too. A little cheek to cheek, a walk hand in hand down the trail, and suddenly you have a frame-worthy photo for your own walls.

We wrapped up with a timeless black and white of all three of them together, the mountains behind them. Simple, classic, and so them.

Outfit Ideas for Fall Family of Three Photos in Utah

This family’s earthy palette was perfect for a canyon full of aspens: a cream knit top and wide-leg light-wash jeans on Mom, a heather-green quarter-zip with khakis on Dad, and a dusty rose pullover with a peek of blue plaid collar on their son.

  • Let one person carry a soft pop of color (like dusty rose) and keep everyone else in neutrals and muted greens.
  • Mix textures like knits and quarter-zips for warmth and depth in your photos.
  • Light denim and khaki keep the look relaxed and cohesive.
