Fall Mini Session in Utah | Family Photos with a Dog in the Sagebrush
Two kids, one fluffy goldendoodle, and a sagebrush field glowing in the evening sun. This fall mini session in Utah was short, sweet, and full of personality. If you’ve been wondering whether to bring your pup to family photos, this family shows exactly why you should!

Family Photos with a Dog: Yes, Bring Them!
Your dog is part of the family, so they belong in the photos. We started with everyone together while the pup was calm (a dapper plaid bandana didn’t hurt), then snuggled in for a cozy huddle. Dad held the leash just out of frame, which keeps things easy and relaxed.

Sagebrush, Trails, and Mountain Views
I love a location with a little variety. The soft, muted sage and autumn grass give a warm, earthy feel, and a quick walk to the paved trail adds big mountain views behind the family. In a mini session, two backdrops close together means more variety without losing any time.

Sweet Sibling Moments
This little guy’s grin while holding hands with Mom and his big sister melted me. Toddlers move fast, so I keep things playful and let them run, walk and giggle. Big sister had her own moment too, arms crossed and all smiles.

Mom and Dad Moments
Even in a mini, I always save a minute for mom with each kiddo and a quick snuggle for mom and her husband. These are the ones you’ll treasure years from now.

Tips for Family Photos with a Dog in Utah
This family’s outfits were spot on: a taupe cardigan with chocolate satin pants for Mom, a gray sweater and jeans for Dad, a plum corduroy pinafore for their daughter, and a plaid flannel with tan pants for their son. A few tips for bringing your pup:
- Take your dog on a walk beforehand so they’re a little calmer.
- Bring a leash, treats and a squeaky toy to get those ears up.
- Add a bandana or collar that matches your family’s colors.
- Mini sessions are perfect for dogs and toddlers since they’re short and sweet.
