Great Salt Lake Family Photos | A Golden Hour Session on the Flats
Pastel sky, endless sandy flats, and a family of three walking barefoot through the sand. This golden hour session on the Great Salt Lake shoreline might be one of my favorite evenings of the whole fall season. If you’ve been dreaming about Great Salt Lake family photos, this one is pure magic!

Why the Great Salt Lake Feels So Dreamy
There’s nowhere quite like the Great Salt Lake at sunset. Soft pink and peach light, still water, and mountains on the horizon turn every frame into a painting. We kept things simple and let the landscape do the heavy lifting while this little family snuggled in and walked the shore.

Jewel Tones Against Soft Sand
Their outfits were made for this light. Mom’s teal and rust botanical maxi, dad’s burgundy knit, and their son’s olive sweater with caramel pants popped so beautifully against the pale flats. Rich autumn colors feel right at home out here.

Sweet Moments with Their Boy
I love giving kids a few frames that feel like them. Hands in pockets, a big grin, glasses catching the last light. These are the ones he’ll love looking back on someday.

Time for Mom and Dad
After the family frames, we grabbed a quiet minute just for husband and wife. Small in the big landscape, standing close on the sand as the sky turned soft. These couple photos always feel so special.

Tips for Great Salt Lake Family Photos
A few things that helped this session feel easy and beautiful:
- Wear jewel tones or warm neutrals that pop against pale sand (burgundy, olive, teal, rust).
- Plan for golden hour. The sky and water light up in the last hour before sunset.
- Bring a towel and a change of shoes. Bare toes in the sand look so natural, but it gets chilly after.
- Keep posing simple. Walking, hugging and standing close look stunning in a big open landscape.
